I wasn’t really planning on writing a post today. But, I was compelled by some recent news to speak up.Have you ever gotten that feeling before? Where you know you are supposed to do something? Well, that is me, right now.
On Facebook this morning I saw “Dear friends we are profoundly saddened by the loss of our daughter” (insert about 2 hours of me crying after reading this). Immediately, I knew what happened because of my own journey and struggles with premature birth. In the last 18 months, I’ve had 2 friends who have lost their babies to premature birth, known 7 who have given birth early, and my own story of delivering a premature baby is what pushed me to start ToxFreeMe.
Canada, Mexico and other South American counties have lower rates of premature birth than the US. Did you know??…..that the United States has the highest rate of premature birth compared to all the developing countries.
So what’s the difference? You can probably guess what I am going to say – TOXINS!
Don’t think I am crazy, because I am not the only one. Dr. Bruce Lanphear says, that premature birth is a good indicator of a “healthy” population – it can be due to infection, poor nutrition or having multiples that premature birth occurs. BUT, that only accounts for 1/3 of premature birth.
So what happens with the other 2/3 of births that are premature?
The Environmental Working Group conducted a study on umbilical cord blood. In that test they found
- 180 chemicals known to cause cancer
- 217 are toxic to the brain & nervous system
- 208 cause birth defects or abnormal development
Our bodies are burdened by chemicals which weaken our system. Dr. Joseph Pizzorno says, in his book The Toxin Solution, that “chemicals harm our ability to process sugar effectively” which is the source of the diabetes epidemic – NOT SUGAR. Chemicals are poisoning our bodies causing it to malfunction and when it is NOT performing optimally, we get
….as Dr. Paula Baillie-Hamiton says in her book Stop the 21st Century Killing You.
While the European Union has banned 1,300 chemicals because of their dangerous effects, the United States has only chosen to ban 11 of those same chemicals. If you are overwhelmed and don’t know where to start, I get it. I was once there too.

The FDA has only banned 8 and restricted 3 chemicals found in cosmetics while 1300 have been banned in the European Union. In the U.S it’s a free market and you don’t have to do anything — no safety testing required — until there is a problem. And the issue is, a lot of these health impacts are long-term. It’s not like if I develop breast cancer in 20 years, I can link that to the aluminum zirconium in my deodorant. We don’t know how these ingredients are interacting when they come into play. The average woman puts 515 synthetic chemicals on her body every single day without even knowing. And 60 percent of what we put onto our skin is absorbed into our bodies.
