Nothing compares to a warm bath at night to help kids wind down from a long day. Most parents are familiar with this process and is used frequently because of its ability to get out the last bit of energy and sooth kids during the night time routine. Why is Detoxing Important?

 

Detoxing is an important part of our bodily functions. Naturally, we detox through our liver, kidneys, bowels, lymphatic system, spleen, lungs and skin to get rid of things our body considered toxic. Think about our breathing as an example. Carbon monoxide is toxic to our body and part of the reason we exhale is to get rid of this dangerous by-product. This is just one of many toxins that enter our body.

Toxins can come from all over the place from our food, our water, our air and ever the products we use on a daily basis. In the last 50 years, 84,000 chemicals have been introduced into production which means 84,000 chemicals are being put into our soaps, laundry detergent, mattresses, crayons, and even kids pajamas – the scary part….without any regulation.

With this onslaught of chemicals, our bodies are having a harder time functioning because of the toxin overload, also known as body burden.

Detoxing is important because it helps our body function properly and efficiently acting as a natural way to boost our immunity. The less toxins that stay in our system the more likely our bodies have an opportunity to do what it does best….keep us alive.

 

Why are detox baths so good?

 

Because children often find themselves in a bath for long periods of times and because most kids frequently take baths, this is a great opportunity to enhance the natural process of detoxification.

As I mentioned before, many toxic chemicals have entreated our society which makes the natural process of detoxification much harder these days. Margaret Jasinska,a natropath doctor, says when we are not careful of what we put on and in our bodies

“[their] ability to rid itself of toxins becomes poorer, and the toxins start to accumulate in our tissues.  This places an enormous stress on our immune system.  Immune disorders are one of the fastest growing group of diseases.  Allergies, food intolerances, autoimmune diseases and chronic infections are on a steep climb. They are also occurring in younger and younger people. Children are now developing diseases that were previously only seen in adulthood.”

Detox baths are a regular way to encourage, emphasizes and improve detoxification in our bodies. With everything we are fighting against, I want to do all I can to help my children’s body function the way they should. Those diseases and illnesses are not worthy of my children and I am sure you feel the same way.

 

Detox Baths for Kids Recipes

 

Now that we know why detox baths are so good. Here are some key ingredients to use in a detox bath and what makes them important:

  1. Epsom Salts – draw toxins out of the body, relives aches and pains
  2. Baking Soda – balances an overly acidic system , known for cleansing and anti-fungal properties
  3. Himalayan Sea Salt – composed of many minerals helping to replenishes  internal systems
  4. Apple Cider Vinegar – cleanses body of bacteria and helps boost immunity
  5. Essential Oils – various applications for soothing skin, calming negative emotions, detoxing your body, boosting your immunity & improving overall health

Health Benefits of Detox Baths for Kids

 

While your body naturally detoxes, encouraging your body and even helping your body can offer many health benefits. From reducing brain fog, fatigue, constipation, gut health, and more, detoxing can bring our body more in balance.

Doing daily detox baths isn’t necessary but I try to focus on getting 1-2 in a week for my kids and at least one in a week for myself even if it is just a little foot bath while typing emails, writing this blog post or watching the evening news.
