Toxic chemicals can be found in all sort of cleaning products around our home. Because we breath them in, touch them and exposure our bodies multiple times a day to many different chemicals it is important to understand what is in your cleaning products. Remember Essential Oils are highly concentrated meaning a little goes a VERY long way. While there is no hard-and-fast rule, when cooking with essential oils, 2 to 4 drops should cover you for an average service size.


Because Essential Oils are highly concentrated you must always take precaution when working with them. They should be diluted:

Savory dishes use – olive oil, coconut oil, grapeseed oil, butter, etc.
Sweet dishes use – honey, syrup

Dilution helps keep us safe but also helps incorporate the Essential Oils throughout the recipe.


When making hot dishes, wait until the end of the recipe to add your Essential Oils.  Essential Oils are very fragile, delicate and “volatile” which means they will dissipate quickly in high heat. Don’t fear…just ensure you are being cautious when cooking with essential oils.

For stovetop recipes, once the cooking is complete stir in your diluted essential oils. For example, if I am making a marinara sauce for my pasta dish. I will add my Basil and Oregano Essential Oils once I have removed the pot from the heat and let cool for 1 to 2 minutes.

When baking with Essential Oils, you will have to expect to lose a bit of the properties in the process but you will still be able to enjoy the flavors no matter what.
