why essential oils why essential oils why essential oils why essential oils
Are you curious about the Essential Oils hype? So was I! My interaction with them had been limited but I kept hearing about their secret powers to enhance our lives. I was skeptical because I had never seen the amazing results that all these people were claiming despite my multiple interactions. The more I learned the more I realized that I did not understand what Essential Oils were and how to properly use them which ultimately limited my results.
WHAT ARE THEY
Essential Oils are the life force of plants helping to regulate and promote the health of plants. Similar to how blood operates in our bodies, Essential Oils regulate, oxygenate and heal plants making them powerful in natural and for us. Dr. David O’Brien says that if all plant life were to die, humans would only survive for 3 days.
Because of the symbiotic relationship between humans and plants, Essential Oils have the ability to unlock many benefits with us. Unfortunately, people are skeptical of Essential Oils for many reasons whether that is a bad experience, disbelief or the use of the wrong types.
Plants are incorporated into our life in multiple ways. Some great examples are peppermint tea to help heal sore throats, lemon found in mainstream cleaning products and eucalyptus found in vapor rubs…just to name a few. Sadly, these main stream products contain synthetic versions of plants along with other harmful chemicals. Why? Because a man-made version is cheaper than the real thing.
Overtime our society has become more willing to trust industry and production over nature leading to serious health complications. Chemicals and synthetics cause our bodies to malfunction , directly linked to the rise in chronic sickness, illness and disease such as asthma, allergies, diabetes, fatigue, reproductive issues, infertility, cancer, thyroid dysfunction and so much more . Let me be clear that medicine is important to our health but WELLNESS is the ability to maintain your health through daily habits of which includes Essential Oils.
One of the reasons we started using Essential Oils was to support our premature daughter’s health in a more proactive manner. Premature babies are born with less antibodies which makes fighting off sickness, illness or disease challenging compared to a baby born at term. We wanted to incorporate things into our lives that would support her immunity instead of suppress her immunity like chemicals do .
After $20,000+ in medical bills, from her premature birth, we knew that we could not afford any more visits to the hospital that year if something went wrong. Additionally, with the rise in health care costs, we were in search of a first line of defense to help manage our expenses and reduce our risk of potential medical bankruptcy (the #1 cause of bankruptcy even with health insurance) .
Since incorporating Essential Oils and Essential Oil based products into our lives, London, our preemie baby, has been the healthiest of our children even when our two older children begin to get sick. Over time, I too started to notice that it became easier to fall asleep, I had more energy throughout the day and if my body felt slightly off it would rebound quicker. While some people see the results immediately, my results came through continual use and interaction Essential Oils and less reliance on chemical-based products.
ARE THEY SAFE?
Absolutely, Essential Oils are safe as long as they are used in conjunction with proper education. Think about it this way. Acetaminophen overdose sends as many as 78,000 Americans to the emergency room annually and results in 33,000 hospitalizations a year, federal data shows. Acetaminophen is also the nation’s leading cause of acute liver failure, according to data from an ongoing study funded by the National Institutes for Health . In 2016, total deaths from drug overdose was 63,632 and overdose deaths from opioids were 42,249 in the United States .
No deaths have ever been reported from an overuse or overdose of any Essential Oil. And, while I am not a proponent for Marijuana, no deaths have ever been reported from a Cannabis overdose which just happens to be a plant.
If you do read articles suggesting Essential Oils are not safe for the body, research the study. A prime example is a study found in the New England Journal of Medicine stating that lavender oil caused breast swelling in young boys . As a follow-up, the journal of Reproductive Toxicology reported that there was a lack of evidence but it should also be noted that: 1) The study used essential oil constitutes not true essential oils. 2) The oil fractions were applied to human cancer cells not healthy human cells. 3)The authors excluded the full list of ingredients in the products cited including plasticizes, pesticides and herbicides which are linked to hormone disruption .
So why Essential Oils? Because plants are powerful, something our body understands and something our body recognizes unlike the man-made, synthetic chemicals found in many mainstream products that are directly linked to malfunctions in our bodies.
The other reason we choose Essential Oils and Essential Oil based products is that they can be used in all areas of our life. From nourishing our body, keeping our homes clean, staying healthy and even making us look beautiful (aka. make-up), Essential Oils are natural solutions.
